Hello! Welcome to My Blog!
Too cheerful? Oh well, I’m generally a cheerful person. I’m keeping this blog relatively anonymous, and as such, am going by the name greenmint. I generally refer to friends by their first initial, or by their function – The Parents, the Sister, BF for The Boyfriend.
I’ve recently turned 30, and was stunned to discover that most other people my age have a much better handle on being a grown-up than I do. I’ve been operating in a sort of quasi-teenage quasi-adult world for far, far too long in respect to my finances, and its about time that I grew up, took hold of things and got my life under control.
I live in a quiet New England suburb, and commute into the big city every day for work, via the train. I’m a librarian by degree, but my current job is much more about Content Acquisition and Editing than it is about librarianship. Needless to say, I love it, and am often amazed at the twists and turns my life has taken to get me to this point. I love to go out with my friends, particularly to see live music or sing karaoke, and I’m more than a little bit of a fashionista. Both of these habits have helped contribute to my debt.
As a side note – I’m actually not a newbie to the blogging world. I used to have a proto-blog, back between 1997-1999, when they were called online journals. Then, I blogged again between 2001-2003, though fairly sporadically. I’ve since written things off and on, particularly in my myspace blog, but not felt compelled to actually create a full-fledged blog until now. I’m looking forward to re-inventing the process for myself.
Oh, and the name? A quote/song title from Billy Bragg. I did mention that I loved music, and the lyric just jumped out at me one morning while I was riding the train.
Email me at greenmintgirl at gmail dot com, should you be so inclined.

Hiya greenmint, nice to meet you. I’m a similar age and in a similar position, but I’m in academia (or on the path to academia) rather than having a “real” job right now (there are many I’d like to have…). It sounds like I don’t have quite as much debt as you, but I do have quite a bit of student loans. Mostly though I am more interested in investing than in reducing debt. I feel there’s no point in trying to get rid of loan debt until I’m sure I won’t need anymore loans. Anyways, stop on by my site sometime and check it out and say hi.
